You don’t need me to tell you this but getting divorced is an expensive affair. The good news is quick cheap divorces are possible using an often overlooked option: hiring a cheap divorce lawyer.

Lawyers have special areas in which they work. Do not just go with any lawyer based on familiarity or misguided advertisements. Make sure the lawyer that handles your case specializes either in divorce or family law. Divorce cases are dicey. You need a lawyer who knows the ropes. Any lawyers outside divorce and family law, avoid like a plague.

Look for business experience. If your process is going to advise you on your business, it is trite to say that having business experience is a must. Again it goes to the difference between dealing with a junior associate just out of school and someone who has real practical hands on business experience.

FAILURE TO ASK QUESTIONS. You should ask a lawyer you are considering who he/she would hire for a case such as yours. You should ask the lawyer you are considering questions about his/her experience and credentials. Can they point to satisfied clients who have given testimonials of their experiences with the lawyer and law firm? Who besides the lawyer will be working on your case? How do they handle telephone calls? How do they charge? What does the lawyer expect of you? How will he/she keep you informed of progress on your case? How does he/she plan to present your case/defense? You should ask questions about court procedures or other procedures pertaining to your case or legal matter. If there are terms that you do not understand, ask your lawyer to explain them to you.

Making business cards is important. It is easy to find quality business cards online for reasonable prices. Your business card needs to include the important contact data, like your name, your company name, phone number and email address. Be sure to include your email or website address. This helps make it easy for customers and prospects to contact you.

Never let a lawyer ask for more in negotiations with 3rd parties, without your permission. This will only delay the agreement and the other party will then take off the table, some of their concessions given to you.

A chart below provides some questions you can ask lawyers when you are shopping around. The questions relate to cost and experience. Whether you like the lawyer is simply a gut feeling, no chart required.
